What is it and Why?
COUP D'OEIL showcases theatrical works that have been selected by L'UniThéâtre from its public reading series À Voix haute. This year, L'UniThéâtre is offering a one-week development workshop to two authors with the goal of presenting their work-in-creation and giving our public the opportunity to have a preview of what we are planning for upcoming seasons. This year, we will discover two deeply moving explorations of the heart and of the human spirit: Trajet dit, by Donia Mounsef and Un petit carré de ciel bleu dans grand ciel gris, by Renée Bouchard,
These two plays unite us in the suffering, the strength and the hope that we all need in order to persevere and move forward. These chosen works demonstrate L'UniThéâtre's commitment to the development of new works and the advancement of Alberta's regional Franco-Albertan voices. A place without voices, without stories, has no identity. L'UniThéâtre believes that it is crucial to support and favour authors of our region.

BY DONIA MOUNSEF
TRAJET DIT tells the story of a tragic accident which occurred in Edmonton, when a little boy died by getting hit by a drunk driver. It's the story of our community -- a story that only affected a few people directly, but that continues to touch many. We believe it is our duty to tell this story and to share it with our audience, but also to expose our audience to a new work by a member of our community.
This play touches upon several themes: how do we talk about the inexpressible concept of death? How do we relate, through language, the tragic feelings felt on a corporal level? How do we live in an environment regulated by manipulation of the truth to the benefit of those who have the means to subvert it? TRAJET DIT explores difficult themes related to death, to the fragmentation of consciousness caused by mourning and to the desire to hold onto life no matter all the pain it causes us.

UN PETIT CARRÉ DE CIEL BLEU DANS UN GRAND CIEL GRIS
by RENÉE BOUCHARD
UN PETIT CARRÉ DE CIEL BLEU DANS UN GRAND CIEL GRIS is a shared tragedy.
Elizabeth and Catherine have one thing in common: they both had a child and both of them disappeared. Without knowing why and who is responsible, and especially, without a clue of when they might return. They fear the worst. And the worst happens. But what is worse? Knowing or not knowing? When we know, how to we recover? And when we don't know, what do we do to move forward? This play explores the dark side of the sorrow of a life that is not necessarily dead. Yes, live goes on...but how?
