artists and education program
L’UniThéâtre facilitates workshops to schools who are interested in having a theatre educator present material (in French) to their classrooms through the Artists and Education Program Grant offered by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA).
Workshops can be held over the course of a single day or several days, and for up to one to two weeks per month. The duration of the workshop(s) is to be specified by the school applying for the grant.
Prix Louise ladouceur
meilleure critique de théâtre
In January 2016, L’UniThéâtre and the University of Alberta’s Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies (MLCS) launched a new project with the goal of enriching the pedagogical experience of students from the U of A’s North Campus and Campus Saint-Jean by encouraging them to attend French-language plays. The prize is named after Professor Louise Ladouceur of the University of Alberta's Campus Saint-Jean, who has contributed immensely to L'UniThéâtre over the years in several ways. Louise Ladouceur is responsible for establishing the use of surtitles at L'UniThéâtre, which have subsequently made it possible for French language learners and Francophiles to attend our performances and gain a better understanding of the nuances of the productions they see.
The Prix Louise Ladouceur - meilleure critique de théâtre (prize for the best theatre review) is aimed at inspiring learners of French and encouraging them to improve their linguistic abilities by writing a review of one of L’UniThéâtre’s plays. The reviews submitted by the students are evaluated by a jury consisting of members of the U of A and L’UniThéâtre. The student with the ‘winning’ review receives a subscription to L’UniThéâtre’s subsequent theatre season, as well as a certificate of appreciation for his/her work and his/her review is posted on L’UniThéâtre’s website and the Francopains blog.
La Plume Parlante
La Plume parlante is an initiative aimed at aspiring writers/creators from Alberta’s Francophone/franco-immersive communities.
L’UniThéâtre recognizes the need to develop playwrights and considers this an essential component in contributing to our cultural community and beyond.
La Plume parlante is an open writing circle and forum for hopeful playwrights/theatre creators who would like to develop their skills, be they nascent or dormant, in a nurturing and inviting environment.
LA LIGUE patate
(IMPROV in FRENCH)
The Ligue Patate, a francophone improv comedy league in Edmonton, is a community opportunity which encourages free and playful expression, without limits. This initiative was created to support Franco-Albertan expression and to give an honest and authentic voice to its participants.
The Ligue Patate is looking for teams of 5-6 members to be part of an amateur improvisation season (no experience is necessary). Registrations will be launched at the beginning of September. Keep an eye open for the official announcement.
